Pull those skin-tight jeans out of the closet and ready your populist rock’n’roll rhetoric—tickets are officially on sale for the Broadway transfer of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, the new musical from director/bookwriter Alex Timbers and composer/lyricist Michael Friedman. A smash hit during its spring 2009 run off-Broadway (where it became the second-highest grossing production in the Public Theater’s history), the show begins performances Broadway’s Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on September 20, with opening night set for October 13.
A brash rock musical about the country we live in and the leaders we choose, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson redefines America’s seventh president, the man who invented the Democratic Party and doubled the size of our nation, using a blend of comedy, theatricality and an emo rock score.
Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson has also announced a September 21 release date for the original cast album, to be released by Sh-K-Boom/Ghostlight Records. The recording, produced by Kurt Deutsch and Dean Sharenow, will include the songs “Populism, Yea, Yea!” “I’m Not That Guy,” “Oh, Andrew Jackson,” “Illness As Metaphor,” “I’m So That Guy,” “Ten Little Indians,” “The Corrupt Bargain,” “Rock Star,” “The Great Compromise,” “Public Life,” “Crisis Averted 1,” “Crisis Averted 2,” “The Saddest Song,” “Second Nature” and “The Hunters of Kentucky.”
